Pride Spring Sports Post-Season Schedule Update (Thurs., April 24)

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- April 24, 2008 -- The Springfield College baseball and softball teams opened up post-season play Wednesday (April 23) in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.

Both teams went down to defeat in first-round action on the road. The #4-seeded baseball team traveled to #3-seeded MIT in Cambridge, and lost by a score of 11-2. The #3-seeded softball team traveled to Wheaton College in Norton, where it played #6-seeded Smith, falling by a score of 6-5.

As a result, here are the updated schedules for each team:

Baseball -- NEWMAC Second Round
Because #6-seeded Clark upset #1-seeded Babson, Springfield TODAY will HOST Clark at Berry-Allen Field at 3:30 pm. Springfield must win this game, and all remaining games, in order to advance in this double-elimination tourney. If the Pride wins, it will next play on Saturday (April 26) at a time and site to be determined.

Softball -- NEWMAC Second Round
Springfield will next play Saturday (April 26) against #5-seeded Babson at Wellesley at 12 noon. If the Pride wins that game, it will then play either Clark or Smith at Wellesley at 4 pm. Springfield would need two wins in order to play on Sunday, again at Wellesley. With one loss already, Springfield must win all remaining games in order to advance in this double-elimination tournament.
