SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – July 26, 2007 – Three Springfield College athletes were recently named ECAC Division III New England All-Stars for their outstanding performances during the past spring season.
The trio included Jaclyn Alessi of women’s lacrosse, Paul Voegeli of men’s lacrosse, and Michelle Wlosek of softball. All three had been earlier named New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference First Team in their respective sports, allowing them to be eligible for All-ECAC recognition.
Alessi, a senior defender from Branford, Conn., was named ECAC Division III New England Second Team. She led the Springfield women’s lacrosse team to a 10-8 overall record last spring. The team reached the semifinals of the NEWMAC postseason tourney.
Voegeli, a senior defender from Cheshire, Conn., was named ECAC Division III New England First Team. He led Springfield to the Pilgrim League Tourney championship game for the eighth straight year.
Wlosek, a freshman catcher from Nutley, N.J., was named ECAC Division III New England First Team. Michelle was also named a New England Softball Coaches Association Division III First Team All-Star for 2007, and helped her squad to a 25-14 overall record, and to the first NEWMAC regular-season title in school history. The impressive freshman led Springfield in numerous statistical categories, including batting average (.407), games played (39), games started (39), hits (50), home runs (9), RBI’s (44), total bases (86), slugging percentage (.699), walks (21), and on-base percentage (.490).
