Lutgens Honored By Freedom Football Conference
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 10, 2003 – Springfield College junior fullback
Tim Lutgens is the Freedom Football Conference (FFC) co-Offensive Player of the Week, announced today.
Lutgens shares the award with Coast Guard’s Jon Tillman.
Lutgens, who hails from
Greenwich, N.Y., rushed for 185 yards and five touchdowns to lift the seventh-ranked Pride to a 63-32 win over Norwich and its fifth FFC championship. He scored four times in the first 24 minutes to stake the Pride to a 42-3 lead midway through the second quarter. Of his 185 rushing yards, 135 yards came in the first half against the conference’s second-stingiest run defense.
Lutgens’ 185 yards is the second-highest total of his career, and he went over the 1,000-yard mark for the season (1,052).
The Pride (9-0) attempts to become the first team in 111 years of SC football to complete the regular season with a 10-0 record on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. at Union (N.Y.).

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980.
