No. 15 Football Too Much For Coast Guard, 49-10
NEW LONDON, Conn., Sept. 27, 2003 -- Springfield College junior quarterback
Ryan Sylvia (Marion, Mass.) rushed for 99 yards and two scores, and threw for 70 yards as the 15th-ranked Pride defeated Coast Guard, 49-10, in a Freedom Football Conference game at Cadet Memorial Field this afternoon.
SC (4-0, 2-0 FFC), which entered the game as Division III's top rushing team (344.7), piled up 417 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground today.
Senior halfback
Dustin Grosso (Glen Cove, N.Y.) opened the scoring with a 13-yard first-quarter TD with 10:45 left in the quarter. The Bears rallied to tie the game at 7-7, but SC scored the final 14 points of the half on a 39-yard run by junior halfback
Kevin Domurat (Forestdale, Mass.)(seven carries, 100 yards) and a four-yard score by Grosso (10 carries, 41 yards).
After Coast Guard converted a recovered fumble into three points to open the third quarter, Sylvia took over. He scored on runs of 32 and 11 yards to break open an 11-point game and extend the advantage to 35-10 with 5:11 left in the third. Junior fullback
Tim Lutgens (Greenwich, N.Y., 11 carries, 77 yards) capped the 21-point outburst with an eight-yard run.
SC senior halfback
Craig Belanger (W. Greenwich, R.I.) capped the scoring with a 15-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980.
