SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 21, 2003 -- Springfield College is ranked No. 7 in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III National Poll, announced today.
This is the Pride’s highest national ranking ever. SC was ranked No. 8 in last week’s national poll. In the latest D3football.com national poll, the Pride is No. 8.
SC is also the top-ranked team in the East in both the NCAA Regional and the ECAC Division III Lambert Poll. The NCAA poll was released by the NCAA Division III Football Comittee, and the Lambert which voted on weekly by the media and ranks the 74 Division III teams in the East region.
SC, which is 7-0 and 4-0 in the Freedom Football Conference (FFC), is one of just 16 undefeated Division III teams. SC defeated Plymouth State, 62-0 on Oct. 18. This was the Pride’s 11th consecutive regular-season victory, and 10th straight win in conference play.
On Saturday, Oct. 25, the Pride hosts WPI at 1:30 p.m. in the annual Homecoming Game on Benedum Field. An SC win would clinch a share of the conference title, which would be the Pride’s fifth championship since 1996.
