Kellie Pennington: Women's Swimming

Kellie Pennington
Kellie Pennington of the Springfield College women's swimming team has been named this week's Female Maroon Club Award winner. A freshman from Monson, Mass., Pennington was named the NEWMAC Swimmer of the Year and NEWMAC Rookie of the Year while competing at the NEWMAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at Mount Holyoke College this past weekend. She led SC to a second-place finish behind MIT. On Friday, Kellie set two school records -- in the 50-free (23.18) and 200 free relay (1:35.10). Both times were good to make National B cut qualifications. On Saturday, she placed first in the 100 fly (56.54), a pool record. The physical education major also helped two relays to 2nd-place finishes -- the 200 medley (1:46.69), and the 800 free (7:39.98) -- both in National B cut times. On Sunday, she established meet, open, and pool records in the 100 free (50.89) and the 800 free relay (3:29.68) -- with both placing first.
