Complete ResultsCambridge, Mass. - February 26, 2011 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team remained in third place after the second day of the 2011 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Championships hosted at MIT.
On the strength of seven first-place finishes, MIT increased its lead as it raised its total to 769 points while the U.S. Coast Guard Academy maintained its position in second place with a tally of 517. Springfield College continued to rank third with 346 points.
Springfield's 200 medley relay squad of Josh Ernst, Eric Scala, Scott Mackstutis, and Nolan Manley finished fourth in 1:36.97.
In the 100 back, Ernst met NCAA "B" cut standards as he touched in 51.69 to finish as the runner-up in the race. Other individuals who faired well on the night were Manley, who placed seventh in the 200 free in 1:44.18, and Mackstutis, who swam a 52.57 in the 100 fly to finish ninth.
The Pride closed out the evening session with a second-place finish in the 800 free relay as Manley, Scott Peters, Jason Scotto, and Ernst combined to swim a 6:56.85.
John Taffe enters his 24th season in 2012-2013 as the head coach of the men's and women's swimming teams at Springfield College. Under Taffe’s leadership, the Pride has returned to its status as one of the best collegiate swimming and diving programs in Division III. Read more.
