Men's Cross Country Takes 6th at NCAA Regionals For Best Finish in Program History

Westfield, Mass. - Nov. 10, 2012 - The Springfield College men's cross country team had its best finish in program history at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships on Saturday morning. Springfield finished sixth as a team overall with 185 points.

Heading into this weekend, the highest Springfield College had finished in the race came in 2000 when it took eighth-place. The Pride was top the finishing program from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

Middlebury won the race with 91 points, followed by Bowdoin (101), Bates (105), Williams (113), and Tufts (114).

Individually, Anthony Salvucci finished fifth in 24:58.92 to individually qualify for the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships and will be joined by classmate Ryan O'Connell, who took 15th in 25:15.27 That race will be held next weekend in Terre Haute, Indiana.

This marks the first time as a Division III program that Springfield has sent multiple individual racers to the NCAA Championships.

Placing 39th was Zach Pietras, who crossed the finish line in 25:45.67. Erich Voelker was Springfield's next finisher, recording a time of 26:12.32 to take 59th. Rounding out Springfield's runners was Matt Scully, whose time of 26:24.09 was 69th fastest.
