Springfield, Mass. - December 8, 2012 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team powered past visiting Middlebury, 162-131, on Saturday afternoon in the Linkletter Natatorium.
Springfield had a great showing in the 200 yard freestyle as Jason Scotto (1:47.27), Nolan Manley (1:47.72), and Josh Frey (1:48.06) finished first, second and third for the Pride. Travis Morse also had his first of two first-place finishes of the day as he touched in a time of 25.72 in the 50 yard backstroke.
Michael Normoyle continued to his first-year succes, winning the 50 yard breast stroke in 27.50. In the 100 free, Manley and Scotto claimed the top two spots, posting times of 48.76 and 49.12.
Morse also won 100 yard backstroke with a time of 54.30, while Normoyle picked up top honors in the 100 yard breast stroke with a time of 59.98. In the 100 IM, Normoyle also swam the day's fastest time after producing a 56.06.
As for the diving competitions, Jack Lewis and Kenny Pancoast each registered a pair of national qualifying scores. In the one-meter, Pancoast posted a first-place score of 289.65, followed by Lewis' mark of 276.15. On the three-meter board, Lewis was victorious after totaling a 311.02, while Pancoast earned a 307.58.
The team is not back in action until it head to Oneonta, N.Y. on January 5th for a tri-meet with Hartwick and Union.
