Men's Track & Field Places First in Three-Way Meet in New London

New London, Conn. -- April 14, 2012 -- The Springfield College men's track & field team today finished first in its annual three-way meet at the Coast Guard Academy. SC scored 161 points to WPI's 134 and Coast Guard's 105.

In 19 events, the Pride finished first nine times.

The first-place finishes began with junior Garrett Sharnick (Oxford, Conn.) in the 100-meter dash as he recorded a time of 11.06 seconds. In the 1500-meters, junior Zach Pietras (Ludlow, Mass.) ran across the finish line first in 4:02.71. In the 5000, sophomore Erich Voelker (Albany, N.Y.) was first with a time of 15:48.60.

In the 3000-meter steeplechase, grad student Brian Fuller (Ludlow, Mass.) was first at 9:10.25.

SC's 4x100 meter relay placed first in 43.52 seconds. That quartet included Sharnick, freshman Jessie Charette (Woonsocket, R.I.), senior David Seronick (Stoughton, Mass.), and junior Travis Samuels (East Hartford, Conn.).

In the field events, senior Kevin Coyle (Bradford, N.H.) played his usual starring role, winning both the long jump in 23-7 1/2, and the triple jump in 43-7 3/4. In the shot put, sophomore Orlando Harvey (Chicopee, Mass.) was a winner with a toss of 47-3 1/2. And finally in the discus, junior Ryan Ux (Nashua, N.H.) placed first at 191-6.

There were plenty of second-place finishers for the Pride. They included Sharnick in the 200 meters in 22.75 seconds. junior Ryan O'Connell (Middletown, Mass.) in the 800 in 1:59.27, and junior Anthony Salvucci (Burlington, Mass.) in the 1500 in 4:03.76.

In the 400-meter hurdles, junior Sean Nunan (Clinton, Conn.) took a second with a time of 59.05 seconds.

In field events, sophomore Dale DeCouto (Fall River, Mass.) was second in the high jump with a leap of 6-3 1/4, senior Dylan Brock (Acton, Mass.) was second in the long jump at 21-5 1/4, Charette was second in the triple jump at 42-6 1/4, and freshman Mason Durant (Pittsfield, Mass.) was second in the shot put in 46-6 1/4 as well as the discus in 142-even.
