Box ScoreSpringfield, Mass. - September 10, 2011 - The Springfield College women's tennis dropped its opening match of the 2011 campaign to Wellesley College, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on SC's Appleton Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue dominated the match. Melissa Clark defeated her counterpart, Sam Carney, at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Marie Watanabe handled Jen Cleary, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
It was a tough debut for Springfield head coach Toby Coffin.
Wellesley is 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the NEWMAC. Springfield is 0-1, 0-1

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his third year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
