Gorham, Maine - February 20, 2010 - Nikki Hay won the 55 meter dash and triple jump, was a member of the winning 4x200 relay team, and finished second in both the long jump and the 200 meter dash to lead the Springfield College women's indoor track and field team to a fourth-place finish at the New England Division III Championships on Saturday.
The junior met NCAA Championship provisional standards in both jumping events as she won the triple jump with a leap of 11.70m (38-04.75) and placed second in the long jump with a distance of 5.56m (18-03.00).
In her running events, Hay breezed past the competition in the 55 meters, crossing the finish line in a time 7.25, a full tenth of a second faster than the second-place finisher. Her time of 7.25 proved to be fast enough for Hay to provisionally qualify for her third event of the day in the upcoming NCAA Championships. Teammate Laurie Jenkins took fourth in the 55 after registering a time of 7.48. Hay also tacked on a second-place finish in the 200 meters as she ran a 25.66.
Hay teammed up with Jenkins, Crystal Davis, and Erika Marks to win the 4x200 relay as the quad combined for a time of 1:44.57.
Fatima Rose met provisional standards as well in the weight throw as she recorded a heave of 16.18m (53-01.00), good enough for second place. Rose also placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 11.96m (39-03.00).
Lacey Cartier ran a time of 2:19.64 in the 800 meters as she finished sixth in the race. SC's 4x800 relay team of Ali Dalton, Emma Lang, Michelle Mirti, and Molly Parshley qualified for the ECAC Championships after running a 10:01.99.
