



Williamstown, Mass- September 22, 2012 – The Springfield College men’s cross country team finished 10th out of 17 competing teams at the Purple Valley Classic on Saturday, finishing the 8,000 meter course with 298 total points.Williams, the host team, was able to win the event with the lowest score of 39 total points.
Anthony Salvucci had an impressive showing for Springfield, as he finished 19th out of the 208 total runners. Salvucci’s time was 27:00, less than a minute behind the winning time of Ben Wallis from Tufts University.
Zach Pietras had the next highest finish for the Pride, as he finished 53rd overall, with a time of 27:55. Matthew Scully was the next member of the Pride to cross the finish line, as he checked in at 65th overall, with a time of 28:03.
Erich Voelker finished 105th overall with a time of 28:41. Also, finishing in the top five for the Springfield men’s team was Corey Hamel, who finished 150th after running to a time of 30:08.
The men’s cross country team will be back in action in two weekends, as they travel to Westfield, Mass. to compete in the New England Championships.
Bryan Brown will enter his third season as the head men's cross country coach in the fall of 2013. Brown, who was a former All-American at Springfield College in track, is the reigning NEWMAC Coach of the Year after leading Springfield to its second-straight second-place finish at the conference championships a year ago .
