Williamstown, Mass. - September 28, 2013 - The Springfield College men's cross country team had all five of their top runners finish just eight spots apart as they competed in the Purple Valley Classic on Saturday. Erich Voelker (Albany, N.Y.) ran the fastest time, a 29.47.6 to finish 70th.
Teammate Jacob Simons (Naugatuck, Conn.) ran a 29.52.5 to place 72nd and was followed by Joe Geurds (Albany, N.Y.) (29.54.6) in 73rd and Scott Bushey (Hebron, Conn.) in 74th, who ran a 29.56.9. Corey Hamel (Methuen, Mass.) took 78th for the Pride as he crossed the finish line in 30:22.9.
As a team, the Pride finished 12th of 13 with 367 points. MIT had three runners place in the top five to win the race with 41 points.
Springfield will next race in the New England Championships at Franklin Park on October 12.
