Kingston, R.I. - November 3, 2012 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team had a strong showing at the Ed and Judy Golden Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Pride cruised by Coast Guard, 211.5-81.5 and was bested by host University of Rhode Island, 175-124.
Kellie Pennington had Springfield's only inidividual win of the day in the pool, winning the 50 free in 24.21. She also took second in the 100 free in 54.15.
In the 100 back, Kelsey Poole posted a 1:01.98 to take second, and also swam a second-place time of 2:21.52. Poole also was second in the 100 fly after registering a 1:00.90. Ashleigh Monroe took second in the 1,000 free in 10:50.09, and was also second in the 500 free with a 5:15.43.
Callie Phillips recorded a second-place finish in the 200 after touching in 2:00.05, while Nicolle Stracqualursi posted a 1:09.85 in the 100 breast to take second.
Jennifer Thompson posted the top score on the one-meter board, a national qualifying mark of 263.5. Thompson was also tops on the three-meter board, registering another national mark of 270.90.
Springfield closed out the meet with Pennington, Mary Masayda, Phillips, and Amanda Shaw swimming a 1:41.59 in the 200 free relay.
