



Complete BracketsGrantham, Pa. - December 5, 2009 - Freshman Joseph Grippi won at 133-pounds and junior John Archambeau won at 157-pounds to help guide Springfield College to a 2nd-place team finish at the Petrofes Wrestling Invitational held Friday and Saturday at Messiah College.
18th-ranked Wilkes University won the team title, compiling a two-day total of 146 team points. Springfield College finished just one and half points behind Wilkes with a team total of 144.5 points. Host Messiah College placed third with 125 total team points.
Springfield junior captain Eddie Giron finished second overall in the 133-pound weight class, falling to Grippi in the finals. Sophomores Ryan McGilvray (149 lbs) and Ronald Thompson (165 lbs) both put up strong showings this weekend, with each finishing 3rd overall in their respective weight classes.
Freshman Michael Rose won three matches before losing in the semifinals, but came back to win his final two matches to take third in the 125-pound weight class.
Other notable performances for Springfield included senior Tyler LeBlanc, who finished in 5th place at 174 and Rich Wigglesworth, who finished in 7th overall in the 285-pound classification. Steve Flathers also took seventh at 149 and Jeremy Burns placed seventh at 184.
The Pride will next take the mat when they travel to WPI on Wednesday, December 9th. Action kicks off at 7:30 pm.

Jason Holder will enter his third season as head wrestling coach in 2013. Holder had a standout first season at the helm of the Pride, leading Springfield to the NEWA Duals Championship and taking three wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.
