Williamstown, Mass. - January 24, 2009 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team lost a 188-110 decision on Saturday afternoon at Williams. Brian Sobel swept the diving competition, while Greg Pearsall won the 50 free.
For the Pride, senior Greg Pearsall touched first in the 50 free in a time of 21.99, finished second in the 100 free in 49.52, and second in the 200 free in 1:48.72 .
On the diving boards, Brian Sobel took first on the three-meter board as he scored a 305.93. On the one-meter, Sobel took first with a 303.45, over 50 points higher than the second-place finisher, teammate Matt Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald finished second on both boards behind Sobel with a 249.98 on the one-meter and a 243.45 on the three-meter.
Other strong performers on the day included Andrew Blakesley, who placed second in the 1,000 free (10:14.19) and 500 free ( 5:00.45). Ryan Mackstutis finished second in the 100 breast (1:02.17) and the 200 breast (2:16.30).
The Pride return to action when it hosts Babson next Saturday afternoon.
