



Complete ResultsUtica, N.Y. - October 2, 2011 - The Springfield College men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Sunday afternoon as it blanked Utica College, 9-0, to give head coach Toby Coffin his first win at the helm of the men's program.
Springfield improves to 1-2 on the year with the victory.
Kyle Mersereau picked up a win at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3, while Zach O'Leary cruised at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Benjamin Burnap took No. 3 singles by the scores of 6-1, 6-1, while Joe Giannelli prevailed at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Doug Nickerson was victorious at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2, and Zac Goldstein rounded out singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.
The Pride handled the Pioneers in double play, highlighted by Burnap and Mersereau's 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
The Pride is next in action on Monday afternoon when it squares off with cross-town rival Western New England at 3:30 pm.

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his third year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
