Men's Swimming and Diving Defeats URI, Falls To Coast Guard at Ed and Judy Golden Invitational

Kingston, R.I. - November 3, 2012 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team competed in the Ed and Judy Golden Invitational on Saturday hosted at the University of Rhode Island. Springfield defeated the host Rams, 240-54, and dropped a 160-138 decision to Coast Guard.

The 200 medley relay team of Travis Morse Michael Normoyle, John Vatkevich and Scott Peters opened the meet up with a second place time of 1:42.46.

Nolan Manley had a strong meet as he won the 200 free in 1:47.21, and was second in both the 100 free (48.78) and the 50 free (22.45).

Tim Ramos took second in the 1,000 free in 10:28.21, as did Pat Geraghty in the 200 fly with a 2:01.53. In addition, Phillip Murphy placed second in the 500 free with a 5:05.48.

Normoyle swam to a pair of second-place finishes in the breaststroke events. He swam a 1:01.24 in the 100 breast before touching in 2:18.10 in the 200 meter event. He also finished second in the 200 IM with a 2:03.93.

In diving, Springfield dominated the competition. On the one-meter board, the Pride had the top four scores, including Jack Lewis, took first and qualifed for nationals with a 275.70. On the three-meter, Kenny Pancoast took first with a national-qualifying score of 304.50.

Springfield closed out the meet finishing second in the 200 free relay. Manley, Hayden Cassidy, Peters, and Jason Scotto combined for a 1:29.74.
