Reggio, Kijanka, Price, and Cooney Shine In Third Day Of NCAA Championships

Minneapolis, Minn. - March 20, 2009 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team had several outstanding performances on Friday in both the pool and on the diving boards on the third day of the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday.

With three days of competition in the books, the Pride are in 11th place overall with 72 points as a team.

Meg Cooney and Moira Price each swam consolation finals of the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, respectively while , Michelle Reggio and Meghan Kijanka had outstanding showings in the one-meter diving competition.

Reggio was named an All-American in the diving competition as she placed seventh in the country in the one-meter competition with a 414.10. She qualified for the championship final after placing sixth in the prelims with a 408.95. Kijanka just missed out on making the top eight as she placed ninth with a score of 392.10. She was selected as an Honorable Mention All-American for the second time this week, as she and Reggio both picked up the honor on Thursday for their efforts on the three-meter board.

Cooney finished 12th in the consolation finals of the 100 backstroke as she clocked in a time of 57.57. Cooney qualified for the finals after she finished 15th in the prelims with a school record time of 57.42. Cooney, who entered the race seeded 26th with a time of 58.12, broke the school's previous record of 57.59 that was set in 2005 by former standout Megan Skinner.

Price also consolation finals of the 100 breast and placed 10th in the country in the event as she swam a time of 1:04.68. In the prelims on Friday morning, Price finished 12th with a time of 1:04.89. The three-time New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimmer of the Year was seeded eighth heading into the race with a qualifying time of 1:04.14.
