Springfield College got the scoring started in the 17th minute of the first half when Doug Kitchens (New Milford, Conn.) found Nolan in the middle of the box between two WestConn defenders. Nolan’s shot beat WestConn’s goalkeeper low and just inside the right post to give the Pride a 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, Eric Stalsburg (Old Saybrook, Conn.) extended the Springfield lead to 2-0 when he dribbled around a Colonial defender and blasted a shot high over the outstretched arms of Dan Michalowski (Bristol, CT), WestConn’s goalkeeper.
It took less than five minutes for Springfield to strike in the second half. Nolan scored his second goal of the game when he lofted a high-arcing shot over Michalowski that bounced into the goal for a 3-0 lead. WestConn’s best chance to get on the board came with six minutes remaining in the game when a Ryan Rose (Bethel, CT) header sailed an inch over the crossbar.
For the game, Michalowski recorded two saves for the Colonials who fall to 7-9-2 on the season. Freshman Brandon Walton (Southampton, Pa.) had seven saves in his first start in goal for Springfield. The Pride’s season record now stands at 6-8-2.
