Men's Gymnastics Places Fourth at West Point Open

West Point, N.Y. - February 1, 2013 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team placed fourth among the seven teams competing in the team session of the West Point Gymnastics Open on Friday evening.

No. 13 Temple nipped No. 14 Army for the 2013 team title, 417.4-416.1. No. 11 William & Mary finished third (411.4) followed by No. 17 Springfield (401.4) and No. 15 Navy (398.15) in the collegiate competition. Club teams Arizona State (395.5) and Brockport (173.35) rounded out the seven-team field.

Several individuals qualified for Saturday evening's individual session. In the still rings, Ryan Ponce tied for the highest score on Friday night, posting a 15.100. Jimmy Pezzino competed for the first time this season, and scored a 14.050 on the floor exercise.

Jon Zirna continued his successful freshman campaign, qualifying in the pommel horse after totaling a 14.200. On the vault, Chris Jost registered a 14.200 to earn the right to compete on Saturday, while both James Hennin (13.850) and Garrett DeSantis (13.350) will each compete on the high bar.
