Springfield, Mass. -- December 5, 2009 -- Nikki Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) easily won the 55 meter dash and the 200 meter dash to lead her Springfield College women's indoor track & field team to victory in the season-opening Springfield Invitational this afternoon at the SC Field House. The Pride won it with a score of 194.50 points, followed by WPI (130), Westfield State (88.50), Rhode Island College (61), and Eastern Connecticut State (60).
Hay's time of 7.29 seconds allowed her to qualify provisionally in the 55-meters for the NCAA Division III Championships at DePauw University in Indiana Mar. 12-13. Hay won the 200-meters with a time of 25.99 seconds, which was .56 seconds better than her closest competitor.
In the 400 meters, the Pride duo of Crystal Davis and Laurie Jenkins shared first place with a time of 1:03.10.
In the 600 meters, SC's Rosi Cummings' winning time of 1:41.37 was only a second and a half off the school record. In the 4x200, Jenkins, Hay, Joy Jennifer, and Davis ran a winning time of 1:46.37, not far off the SC school mark.
Other SC first-place finishers included Lacey Cartier (2:27.83) in the 800; Michelle Mirti (3:16.93) in the 1000; Lindsey Eby (19:55.21) in the 5000; Fatima Rose (11.64m) in the shot put, as well as in the weight throw (15.60m); and the 4x400 meter relay team (4:23.31) of Davis, Jennifer, Cummings, and Cartier.
