Springfield, Mass. -- April 20, 2013 -- Laurie Jenkins, Brianna Hill, and Rhian Duggan led their Springfield College women's track & field team to a close two-point victory over WPI and six other teams this afternoon in a meet held at SC's Blake Track.
The Pride scored 159 points to edge WPI's 157. Those two squads were followed up by Westfield State with 104, Keene State (94), Saint Rose (75), AIC (69), Eastern Connecticut State (27), and Manhattanville (18).
As has been the case throughout the year, Jenkins has continued to be an impressive presence for the Pride. She won both the 100 meters in 12.21 seconds (by four tenths) and the 200 meters in 25.78 seconds (by six tenths). Crystal Davis finished second for SC in the 100, and fifth in the 200.
Springfield also captured the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 48.88 seconds.
Duggan won her specialty, the pole vault, in 3.25 meters, .20 meters better than her nearest competitor.
Two other first-place finishers for SC included Hill in the triple jump in 10.62 meters, and Elizabeth Footit in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:31.49.
Second-place finishers for the Pride, besides Davis in the 100, included Abigail Wright in the 1500 meters in 5:08.76, and Amanda Martin in the long jump in 5.22 meters.
Next Saturday, Springfield will play host to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference track & field championships at Blake Track.
