



Complete ResultsBoston, Mass. - February 28, 2009 - The Springfield College women's track and field team finished 18th out of a field of Division I, II, and III teams in the New England Open Championships hosted by Boston University on Saturday.
Springfield recorded 12 points and finished 18th out of 32 teams competing in the the event. The University of Connecticut finished first with 186.50 points.
Nikki Hay finished seventh in the 55 meter dash as she registered a time of 7.28 en route to All-New England honors. In the semifinal heat, the junior posted a sensational time of 7.22 to qualify for the finals. She also finished third in the long jump with a distance of 18-00.25 and sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 38-00.25.
The Pride's other top-eight finisher was freshman Fatima Rose, who took eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 51-04.25. In just her first year, Rose has improved dramatically en route to picking up All-New England accolades.
There were several other strong performances on the day as the Pride relay's performed well. The distance medley team of Michelle Mirti, Joy Jennifer, Emma Lang, and Amanda DiPaolo ran their fastest time of the year, 12;38.55, and qualified for the ECAC Championships.
Springfield's 4x 800 relay posted its fastest time of year as well as Lang, Mirti, Jackie Pires, and DiPaolo, clocked in the ECAC qualifying time of 9:41.98.
Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
