Ithaca, N.Y. - November 30, 2012 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team finished the opening day of the Ithaca Invitational in third place among 11 teams competing.
Cornell University leads the competition with 485.5 points, followed by Colgate's total of 329.5 The Pride's 178 points is third-best, while SUNY Geneseo and Hartwick are tied for fourth with 158 points.
Highlighting the day's events was Kellie Pennington, who automatically qualifed for the NCAA Championships in the 50 free with a time of 23.29. Last spring, Pennington claimed the NCAA Division III national championship in the event with a time of 23 seconds flat.
Jennifer Thompson was the runner-up on the three-meter board after totaling a score of 453.60. Paige Rhodes registered a mark of 374.10 to finish seventh.
In the 500 free, Ashleigh Monroe touched in 5:17.50 to finish in 10th place, while Callie Phillips recorded the Pride's best time in the 200 IM, a 2:14.56.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Kelsey Poole, Nicolle Stracqualursi, Pennington, and Amanda Shaw finished seventh in 1:52.00.
