



Box ScoreChicopee, Mass. - September 27, 2010 - The Springfield College men's soccer recorded its fifth shutout of the season as it blanked local-foe Elms College, 3-0, on a rainy Monday evening. In the non-conference win, Eric Stalsburg netted the game-winning strike in the 17th minute, while Scott Morneault finished the contest with a goal and an assist.
Springfield has now won three-consecutive games to improve to 7-2 on the season. Elms remains winless on the season as it falls to 0-7-1.
Springfield connected for its first goal of the contest at the 16:12 mark when David Chessen tapped the ball to Morneault who then hit a streaking Stalsburg, who fired a shot into the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead.
After taking a 1-0 advantage into halftime, the Pride extended its lead to two when John Mankus scored off a corner kick service from Danny Amato in the 51st minute of action.
Seven minutes later, Springfield netted its third goal of the game when Morneault scorched a shot that deflected off an Elms defender and into the net.
The Blazers had opportunities to get on the board, placing seven shots on target, but could not find the scoring touch.
Springfield net minder Chris Walton finished with six saves to preserve the shutout win. For Elms, junior goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan collected six saves
The Pride return to conference play when it travels south to take on Coast Guard. Kick off is scheduled for 7:00 pm in the key league game.
