



Springfield, Mass. - August 23, 2011 - Mark Safer was named to the 2011 D3 Senior Classic Preseason All-American Football Team. The senior was selected as the return specialist for the North Offense's Second Team.Safer, who hails from St. Johns, Fla. has emerged as one of the Pride's top scoring threats with the ball in his hands. Last season, Safer ranked 17th in the country in kick returns, averaging 26.8 yards per try. From his halfback position, Safer ranked second on the team with 10 touchdowns, including six which came from 20 yards or more.
Last season, the Springfield College football coaching staff led the North to victory at the 2010 D3 Senior Classic as Ken Goodwin and John Carlson represented the Pride on the field. The 2011 D3 Senior Classic will be played on December 9th in Salem, Va.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
