Boston, Mass. - February 13, 2010 - Steve Headley had a tremendous day as he won the 55 meter dash in 6.36 seconds and set a school record in the 200 meters as the Springfield College men's track and field team competed in the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Saturday.
Headley, the reigning Division III National Champion in the 55 meters, entered the race seeded ninth but ran the second-fastest time in the country en route to the victory. To date, Headley has run to two fastest times in the country with his 6.36 from today and his time of 6.33 which he ran on December 5.
He also reset his own school record in the 200 as he crossed the finish line in 21.82, good enough for 11th place on the day.
Kevin Coyle continued to impress in the jumping pit as he placed third in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 8 inches. Nickel Hay ran a 48.69 in the 400, qualifying provisionally for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships. Hay also helped the 4x400 relay to finish 18th with a time of 3:20.13, with Hay running a 48.70. He was joined on the relay with teammates Kevin Behlmer, Tom Brognano, and Chris Quetant.
Other top performers included Troy French, who ran a time of 2:36.00 in the 1,000 meters and Nick Hogan, who registered a toss of 45-10.75 in the weight throw.
