Men's Track & Field Earns Meet Title in Springfield 5-Way

Springfield, Mass. -- December 3, 2011 -- The Springfield College men's track and field team easily handled a season-opening five-way indoor meet in the Springfield College Field House this afternoon, scoring 202 points in defeating four other teams.

Team scores were as follows: Springfield 202, WPI 149, Westfield State 117, RIC 82, Eastern Connecticut State 32.

In the jumping events, Kevin Coyle continued to dominate with a winning leap of 6.94m (22-09.25) in the long jump and a distance of 14.47m (47-05.75) in the triple jump.

Matt Scully was victorious in the 1,000 after running a time of 2:35.86, and teammate Brian Fuller cruised to a victory in the 5,000 with a time of 14:47.69.

Springfield's 4x200 relay team of Garrett Sharnick, Ken Toal, Ryan Gower, and Steven Gallagher also claimed first in 1:35.09.

The Pride had a handful of second-place finishers on the afternoon. In the 60 meter dash, Dylan Brock ran a second-place time of 7.2 seconds, while Sharnick also posted a time of 23.47 to finish second in the 200. First-year Michael Johnson crossed the finish line second in the 400 in 51.24.

Also finishing second on the afternoon was Sean Nunan, who ran a 1:27.27 in the 600. Eric Archambault took second in the mile with a time 4:38.51, while Anthony Salvucci was also runner up in the 3,000 with a 8:47.54. Orlando Harvey added second-place points with a toss of 14.00m (45-11.25) in the shot put.
