Women's Tennis Splits With St. Ambrose and Roger Williams

Amy Buttarazzi Orlando, Fla. - March 12, 2012 - The Springfield College women's tennis had a pair of strong performances in the opening day of their Spring Break trip on Monday. The Pride lost a tough 5-4 decision to Roger Williams before toppling St. Ambrose, 6-3.

The Pride improved to 4-9 with the split and snapped a four-match losing skid.

In the Roger Williams match, Sam Carney won No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-2, while Siana Green toughed out a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 victory at No. 3. Springfield's Amy Buttarazzi won for the first of three times on the day as she claimed a win at No. 5, 6-2, 7-5. The duo of Green and Jen Cleary took No. 2 doubles by a 8-4 count.

The Pride strung together four wins in singles against St. Ambrose en route to the 6-3 win. Carney, Green, Sydney Streimer, and Buttarazzi all picked up wins in singles play, while Green and Cleary won at No. 2 doubles and Buttarazzi and Ashley Duhaime took No. 3 doubles.

Springfield will return to the courts on Tuesday when it takes on Wisconsin Lutheran.
