Women's Track and Field Takes Second at Springfield College Invitational

Springfield, Mass. - April 19, 2014 - The Springfield College women's track and field finished second among 12 teams at the Springfield College Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Pride registered 109 points on the day, as Worcester State won the Invitational with 159 points. Saint Rose totaled 97 points, while UMass Dartmouth (83.70) and Coast Guard (83.50) rounded out the top five.

Springfield had the top two finishers in the 800 meters, with Gabby Gaudreault (Leominster, Mass.) running a winning time of 2:17.54, while teammate Samantha Pomroy (Lebanon, Maine) clocked in at 2:21.71.

In the 1500, Abigail Wright (Pittsfield, Mass.) recorded the fastest time of the afternoon with a 5:01.30. The Pride's 4x800 relay raced to a winning time of 10:20.64 thanks to the efforts of Elizabeth Beauregard (West Newbury, Mass.), Wright, Dina Pitsas (Milford, Conn.) and Stephanie Williams (Simsbury, Conn.).

Springfield's 1600 sprint medley team also earned first place points as Pomroy, Gaudreault, Elizabeth Saia (Wallingford, Conn.), and Colleen Rice (Queensbury, N.Y.) combined for a 4:17.94.

In the jumping events, Amanda Martin (Bristol, Conn.) won the triple jump with a mark of 37-09.50 and took third in the long jump after registering a 17-06.25.

Springfield had two runners place in the 100 hurdles, with Abby Clark (Holderness, N.H.) taking fourth (15.54) and Erin Womboldt (Falmouth, Mass.) finishing fifth (15.70). Rice added points for the Pride after taking fifth in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.81. Pitsas also took fourth in the 400 meters with a 1:01.19.

In the 3,000 steeplechase, Emily Rund (Enfield, Conn.) clocked in fourth with a 13:00.86, followed by teammate Lindsey Bernard's (Wilbraham, Mass.) fifth-place time of 13:28.67.

The Pride's 4x100 relay team of Womboldt, Darian Dailey (East Providence, R.I.), Elizabeth Saia, and Rice combined for a 51.25 for fifth. In the 4x400 relay, Katherine Bedrossian (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Clark, Katherina Saia (Wallingford, Conn.), and Sarah Skillin ran a third-place time of 4:21.04.

In the long jump, Dailey's distance of 17-01.50 was good enough for fifth, and Lauren Dumaine (California, Ky.) also took fifth in the discus with a 105-07.
