2009 D3football.com First Team All-East Region Selections (.pdf)Minneapolis, Minn. - December 14, 2009 - Senior Jarred Burrell was named to the d3football.com First Team All-East Region as a kick return specialist after a tremendous season for the Springfield College football team.
Burrell, a product of Warwick, R.I., has racked up plenty of awards this postseason. He was previously picked as the top return man in New England as he was named to the New England Football Writers Division II/III All-Stars team as a return specialist. An Empire 8 First Team selection as both a defensive back and as a return specialist, Burrell ranked third in Division III in kick returns (31.47 yards per return) and fifth in Division III in punt returns (16.18 yards per return). This season, Burrell has returned both a punt (at King's) and a kickoff (at Utica) for touchdowns.
Burrell helped lead Springfield to an 8-2 record, including a 42-13 win over Plymouth State in the ECAC Northeast Division III Championship Bowl.
Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 31st season as a head football coach in the fall of 2012. He enters his 29th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
