



Springfield, Mass. -- March 6, 2009 -- When Pete Avdoulos was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Men's Diving Coach of the Year yesterday, he became the fifth Conference Coach of the Year at Springfield College throughout the course of the 2008-2009 academic year. Conference accolades are continuing to pile up for the Pride. Thus far, Springfield College has garnered seven conference Players of the Year, two conference Rookies of the Year, and five conference titles in the past four and a half months.Avdoulos is Springfield College's most recent Conference Coach of the Year. Since mid-October, the following coaches have earned Conference Coach of the Year honors. They are Joe Eadie (New England Collegiate Conference) in men's golf; Melissa Rogers (NEWMAC) in field hockey; John Gibson (NEWMAC) in women's soccer; Joel Dearing (NEWMAC) in women's volleyball; and Avdoulos (NEWMAC) in men's diving. In 2007-2008, Springfield College had four earn Conference Coach of the Year honors, and there is all of the 2009 spring season still to go.
Springfield has already won a total of seven Conference Athletes of the Year. That's three more than all of last year. They include Corey Finch (NEWMAC) in women's basketball; Greg Sobel (NEWMAC) in men's diving; Moira Price (NEWMAC) in women's swimming; Greg Levings (NECC) in men's golf; Jane Kelleher (NEWMAC) in field hockey; Lauren Peltier (NEWMAC) in women's soccer; and Heather Lively (NEWMAC) in women's volleyball.
The Pride has also won two Conference Rookie of the Year awards. They include Kim Giaquinto (NEWMAC) of women's volleyball; and Kaitlin Reilly (NEWMAC) of women's swimming. Last year, SC had three win in this category.
Finally, thus far in 2008-2009, Springfield has won five Conference titles, including four in the fall. They came in men's golf (NECC); field hockey (NEWMAC); women's soccer (NEWMAC); and women's volleyball (NEWMAC). Most recently, SC added a fifth conference title in women's swimming & diving (NEWMAC). Last year, Springfield won a like number of conference titles. Once again, all of the spring season remains.
