



Springfield, Ill. - January 12, 2013 - The Springfield College wrestling team dropped a 24-12 decision to fourth-ranked Augsburg on Saturday before edging Luther, 19-16, in the 2013 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA)/Cliff Keen National Duals. In a third match, SC fell to Wisconsin-La Crosse, 22-14.Against Augsburg, the Pride won four of the first six bouts to seize early control of the match. At 133, Derek Adams picked up Springfield's first win of the day, a 5-2 decision, before Joe Grippi, the nation's third-ranked wrestler at 141, posted a 5-2 decision at 141. Devin Biscaha edged out a 1-0 win at 157, and Derrick Longo registered another Springfield win at 165 to put the Pride up 12-6.
However, Augsburg would rattle off wins in the final four bouts en route to the 24-12 comeback victory.
It was a different start for the Pride against Luther as it fell behind 7-0 after the first two bouts. However, Grippi posted a 9-8 victory at 141 to start a run of five-straight wins for the Pride. Dylan Foley picked up an 8-2 decision at 149, followed by a major decision by Eric Hamrick at 157. Longo's second win of the day coupled with a 3-2 win at 174 by Michael Fish put the Pride up 16-7. Jeremy Burns added another win at 197 as the Pride held on for the the three-point win.
Against Wisconsin-La Crosse in a consolation match, Adams was a 6-2 winner at 133, and Foley won an 11-2 major decision at 149. Longo won his third match of the day (18-6) at 165, while Fish was a 5-2 winner at 174. Up 14-12 at this stage, SC, however, could not win any of the final three matches.

Jason Holder will enter his third season as head wrestling coach in 2013. Holder had a standout first season at the helm of the Pride, leading Springfield to the NEWA Duals Championship and taking three wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.
