Men's Track and Field Competes at Valentine Invitational

Boston, Mass. - February 8, 2014 - Several members of the Springfield College men's track and field team competed against some of the top competition in the region at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.

Alex Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.) had a solid showing in the long jump with a distance of 22-02.25, earning him 10th out of a field of 69 jumpers.

Peter Andrews (Lincoln, R.I.) placed 15th in the weight throw with a heave of 49-06.25. In the 60 meter hurdles, Dylan Peterson (Waterbury Center, Vt.) posted a time of 9.15, while Ryan O'Connell (Middleboro, Mas.) ran the mile in 4:18.03.

Derek Jackson (Warwick, R.I.) raced the 200 meters in 22.86, and registered a time of 7.38 in the 60 meter dash.

Ken Klatka Ken Klatka, an associate professor of physical education at Springfield College, will enter his 38th season as head coach, and 44th as a coach overall, of the men’s track and field program in 2013-2014. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 447 wins, 156 losses, and two ties for an impressive .743 winning percentage.
