Williamstown, Mass. -- September 25, 2011 -- The Springfield College men's golf team finished in a tie for 14th place (of 18 teams) at the Taconic Golf Club in the Williams College Invitational over the past weekend.
Salem State was the tournament's team leader with a score of 298-294=592. Salem State was followed by Manhattanville College (600), Williams (605), Middlebury (616), Trinity (620), Babson (621), Hamilton (632), Bowdoin (635), and Western New England (638). Tying for 10th were Elms and MCLA (639). In 12th was Amherst (651), while Springfield and NYU tied for 14th (653). The final three were Castleton State (667), Wesleyan (687), and Worcester State (696).
As a team, SC fired team rounds of 324 and 329.
Leading the pack for the Pride was junior Ryne McEvoy (Accord, N.Y.), who shot rounds of 78-82=160. He finished in a tie for 40th among individuals.
Behind McEvoy were junior Kyle DiFranco (East Longmeadow, Mass.) tied for 56th with an 80-83=163; junior Chris Vincent (Norwich, Conn.), tied for 67th with an 85-80=165; sophomore Mike Nowakowski (East Hampton, Conn.), also tied for 67th with an 81-84=165; and senior Alex Brown (Portland, Me.) tied for 82nd with an 85-86=171.
This Saturday and Sunday, Springfield College will host the ECAC Division III men's golf championships at the Hampden Country Club in nearby Hampden. Par is 72, and the yardage is 6,874 from the black tees.
