Complete ResultsDelaware, Ohio - May 27, 2011 - Junior Kelly Curtis wrapped up her performance in the heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships on Friday afternoon and finished fourth in the nation, earning All-America honors.
The Princeton, N.J. native totaled 4,760 points in the two-day competition. Janey Helland came from behind on the final day to win the title with 5,061 points over top-seeded Emma Dewart from Ithaca, who scored 5,015. Curtis entered the second day of competition in second place.
In her first event on Friday, Curtis placed 14th in the long jump with a leap of 5.00m (16-05.00). She followed that up with winning her speciality, the javelin, with a toss of 39.79m (130-06), over seven feet farther than the second-place finisher. In her final event of the day, Curtis ran a time of 2:40.12 in the 800 meters.
Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
