Northampton, Mass. -- September 8, 2012 -- Anthony Salvucci finished first as an individual and helped his Springfield College men's cross country team to a second place finish overall at the Smith College Invitational this afternoon.
Salvucci, a senior, ran a time of 26:47.20, just over 13 seconds better than second-place finisher Hayden Bunnell of Colby-Sawyer (27:00.63).
From a team perspective, WPI placed first with 48 points, followed by the Pride's 54. In third was the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with 58 points, Babson with 98, Clark (140), Colby-Sawyer (163), Western New England (224), New England College (232), Hampshire College (247), and Southern Vermont (259).
Others from Springfield College who fared well included senior Ryan O'Connell (Middleboro, Mass.), who placed third at 27:19.13, sophomore Erich Voelker (Albany, N.Y.) ninth at 28:08.16, junior Matthew Scully (Watertown, Conn.) 13th at 28:26.32, and senior Eric Archambault (Douglas, Mass.) 32nd at 29:51.23.
Next Saturday, the SC men will travel to Dartmouth, Mass. for the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational.
