R.I. - September 8, 2012 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team lost to Connecticut College before besting Keene State in the second day of the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Saturday. Conn. College prevailed over the Pride, 25-20, 25-19, 25-16, and Springfield swept Keene State, 25-20, 25-15, 25-20.
Springfield is now 6-2 this season.Against Connecticut College, Tessa Smolinski totaled 10 digs and nine kills, while Mary Consol added eight kills. Amy Entel posted 19 digs and Molly Giannattasio delivered 12 assists.
In the sweep of Keene State, Smolinski led the way with 12 kills and eight digs, with Giannattasio and Whitney Miller combining for 27 helpers. Entel was responsible for 10 digs as well.
For her efforts throughout the weekend, Smolinski earned All-Tournament Team honors.
The Pride will begin its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title defense on Tuesday when it travels to take on Wheaton at 7:00 pm.

Moira Long will enter her second season as head women's volleyball coach in the fall of 2012. Long wasted little time putting her stamp on the program, taking the Pride to the NCAA Championship Elite Eight in 2011.
