Springfield, Mass. - November 19, 2011 - The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team split a tri-meet at home in Art Linkletter Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. The Pride defeated Wheaton College, 243-55, before being edged by Keene State, 153-143.
Springfield had a pair of sophomores perform especially well on the afternoon as both Jennifer Thompson and Kellie Pennington won multiple events. Thompson swept the diving competition, winning the one-meter (273.29) and the three-meter (285.45), while Pennington won three individual events in the pool. Pennington touched first in the 50 free (23.98), 100 fly (59.67), and the 200 IM (2:12.53). She also anchored the Pride's 200 free relay team of Kaitlin Reilly, Jaclyn Van Waalwijk, and Caroline Kosciusko who posted a time of 1:40.34.
Kosciusko was victorious in the 100 free (55.17) and also finished second in the 200 free (2:01.35), Others with strong performances in the pool included Janella Cuyler, who took second in the 100 breast (1:10.69) and Kelsey Poole, who was the runner-up in the 200 back (2:14.64).
In both diving events, Springfield had to the top four finishers. Behind Thompson in the one-meter was Courtney Keefe (243.74), Paige Rhodes (233.39), and Kyra Breitweiser (200.62). On the three-meter, Rhodes (243.90), Keefe (225.82), and Breitweiser (216.29) all placed behind Thompson.
