Ryan Ponce, Chris Jost, Jon Zirna, Kevin Miner, and Pat Ryther were all selected as National Collegiate Men’s Gymnastics National Qualifiers by the NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Committee. The national qualifier, which consists of two pre-qualifying sessions, will be conducted April 19.
Three teams and the top three all-around competitors not on one of the qualifying teams, in addition to the top three individuals on each event not already qualified on a team or as an all-around competitor, will advance from each pre-qualifying session to the finals session. Final competitions will take place April 20-21 at Penn State University.
Ponce will represent Springfield College on the still rings with a qualifying score of 15.487, making his third trip to nationals. The junior is fresh of repeating as the ECAC Champion on the still rings, as he recorded a winning mark of 15.750.
Jost will compete in a pair of events for the second-straight year as he competes on the floor exercise and vault after registering qualifying marks of 14.150 and 14.612, respectively.
Miner and Ryther are also returning to the NCAA Championships in their specialties. Ryther qualified on the pommel horse (13.987), while Miner will compete on the parallel bars (13.825).
In his first collegiate season, Zirna qualified for the NCAA's and will perform on the pommel horse after registering a 14.312.
