Williamstown, Mass. - April 5, 2012 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team rallied from an 8-2 deficit with 18:26 left in regulation to tie things at 9-9 with 4:51 to play, only to have Williams College prevail, 10-9, on Thursday evening.
Springfield, which has now lost three of its last four, drops to 5-6 this season.
Meghan Flanagan paced the Pride with three goals, while Kelly Gallo added two goals and an assist. Michelle Dorsey chipped in with two goals, and Kerstin Lindoorth recorded three draw controls, as did Flanagan. Between the pipes, Anne Versprille made nine saves.
Kaitlin Ellis and Margie Fulton each scored hat tricks in the win for Williams, while Sam Weinstein and Lilly Wellenbach added two markers. Emily Whicker was credited with a game-best six draw controls and Ali Pitch posted 12 saves in goal for the win.
After Flanagan scored the game's first on an unassisted strike 1:20 into the game, the Ephs poured in the next four markers to take a 4-1 lead with 17:32 on the clock. After Gallo finally struck back for Springfield at the 15:44 mark, Williams closed out the half with a free-position goal from Wellenbach to take a 5-2 lead.
The Ephs continued to power past the Pride, scoring the first three goals of the second half to earn an 8-2 lead with 18:46 on the clock.
Dorsey found the back of the cage at 16:43, kick-starting a 5-0 burst to make it an 8-7 game following another Flanagan strike. Weinstein scored Williams' first goal in over 10 minutes to give the hosts a two-goal cushion, only to have Gallo and Flanagan bury unassisted goals to tie the game for the first time since 27:39 left in the first half.
Weinstein scored what would prove to be the game-winner on a free-position attempt with 1:58 on the clock.
The Pride will play again on Saturday afternoon when it squares off against Wellesley at 12:00 pm
