Headley Blazes Into 100 Finals at NCAA Championships

Steve Headley Berea, Ohio - May 28, 2010 - Defending national champion Steve Headley ran the fastest time in Division III this season in the prelims of the 100 meter dash on Friday afternoon to advance to the finals at the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The senior crossed the finish line in a school record time of 10.36.

Running in the second heat, Headley set a new stadium record, which was previously set by Brandon Jones of Lincoln University, who ran a 10.52 in 1993. He will enter the finals as the top-seeded runner, followed by rival Delannie Spriggs of Salisbury University. Spriggs ran the second fastest time of the afternoon, a 10.62.

In both of his national championship victories last season in the indoor 55 meters and the outdoor 100 meters, Headley edged Spriggs for the victories. Spriggs returned the favor this winter as he topped Headley for the indoor national championship in the 55.

Headley will now have a busy Saturday as he will run in the finals of the 100 as the top-seeded runner and will race as the second-seeded runner in the 200. Headley will also join his teammates in the 4x100 also on Saturday afternoon.
