Middlebury, Vt.-- April 3, 2010 -- Led by senior Nikki Hay, the Springfield College women’s track and field team picked up three victories this past Saturday in a 4-Way meet at Middlebury's Dragone Track & Field Complex.
The Pride finished with 148.50 points, just holding off the hosts from Middlebury, which finished with 140.50 points. Bowdoin placed third with 92 points, followed by Vermont which finished with 17 points.
Hay was the top performer of the meet, winning four individual events, and helping a relay team to another first place finish. The individual firsts came in the triple jump (37-00.50), long jump (17-10.75), the 200-meter dash (26.08 seconds), and the 100-meter dash (12.71 seconds). She was also part of the winning 4x100 meter relay team (48.53 seconds). The other three members of the relay team consisted of Crystal Davis, Laurie Jenkins, and Erika Marks.
Marks also contributed to the team with a second place finish in the 100-meter dash (12.85). Davis finished third in that event (13.24).
Davis also was a part of the third place 4x400 relay team which also included Joy Jennifer, Jenkins, and Lacey Cartier (4:11.64). Cartier also finished the day with a second place finish in the 800-meter run (2:22.44).
Fatima Rose took three first place finishes in the field as she won the hammer throw (141-09), shot put (38-08.75), and discus throw (121-06). Lindsay Edwards finished second in the hammer throw (118-06), and third in the discus throw (93-08). Michelle Angelo finished second in the discus throw (102-11), second in the shot put (35-03.75), and third in the hammer throw (106-08). Other second place finishes in the field included Rhian Duggan in the pole vault (9-08.50), Samantha Artz in the high jump (4-11.75), and Steph Colella in the javelin throw (103-03).
Springfield’s next meet is Saturday, April 10 at Coast Guard with WPI.
