Ithaca, N.Y. - December 2, 2011 - The sophomore tandem of Jennifer Thompson and Kellie Pennington each recorded individual victories to lead the Springfield College women's swimming and diving team in the opening day of the Ithaca Invitational on Friday evening.
Out of the nine teams competing in the event, Springfield is currently in second place with 327 points. Cornell University is leading the way thus far with 507.5 points.
Pennington powered past the competition in the 50 free as she finished in 23.37. Teammates Caroline Kosciusko (24.47) and Kaitlin Reilly (24.84) finished third and eighth, respectively.
In the one-meter diving event, Thompson met national qualifying standards as she topped the competition with a score of 433.45. Courtney Keefe took fifth with a score of 383.80, while Paige Rhodes placed seventh with a 368.90.
In the 500 free, Meghan Sisson placed seventh in 5:14.54. The 200 IM saw Breonna Harrington as the Pride's top finisher as she touched in 2:15.30 for 12th place.
Springfield's 200 medley relay team comprised of Kelsey Poole, Janella Cuyler, Reilly, and Pennington finished in fifth after combining for a time of 1:50.48
