



Springfield, Mass. -- October 3, 2011 -- Led by freshman Kyle Mersereau, the Springfield College men's tennis team defeated Western New England University, 8-1, this afternoon at the WNE courts. It was SC's second win in two days.The Pride had beaten Utica, 9-0, in Utica, N.Y. on Sunday.
The win evened SC's record at 2-2 overall.
Mersereau, of Brunswick, Me., won his match at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 7-5. Earlier he had teamed with junior Ben Burnap (Westerly, R.I.) to win his match at No. 2 doubles, 8-1,
The remaining five SC singles players all won their matches in straight sets. They were senior Zach O'Leary (Westboro, Mass.), Burnap, sophomore Joe Giannelli (Watertown, Conn.), senior Doug Nickerson (Falmouth, Me.), and junior Zac Goldstein (Shelton, Conn.).
Final Score: Springfield 8, Western New England 1

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his second year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
