



Chicago, Ill. -- April 2, 2011 -- The Springfield College men's gymnastics team placed fourth with 333.200 points at the EIGL-ECAC Championships today at the University of Illinois-Chicago. A total of six teams competed. UIC captured the title with 346.900 points. SC finished first in one event and second in two other separate events among individuals, and will move on to tomorrow's individual championships.In the team championship, which was determined today, Illinois-Chicago won the EIGL-ECAC title with 346.900 points. They were followed by Temple with 338.300. Then came William & Mary with 336.400, Springfield with 333.200, Navy with 326.700, and Army with 324.300.
The Pride had several individuals perform well today, and they will attempt to win individual championships tomorrow. Freshman Ryan Ponce (Tolland, Conn.) had a score of 14.900 in the still rings, allowing him to finish second in that category. Sophomore Jimmy Pezzino (Buffalo, N.Y.) had a score of 15.600 in the vault, tying him for first., and a score of 14.600 to place him fourth in the floor exercise.
Junior Ty Evans (San Jose, Calif.) had a score of 14.800 in the parallel bars, which allowed him to place second. Evans also finished seventh in the horizontal bar with a score of 14.000.
Senior Josh Fox (Ellicott City, Md.) had SC's best score on the pommel horse with a 13.700 -- tying him for 14th.
In the all-around, Evans placed fourth with a score of 84.300. Three gymnasts from UIC went 1-2-3. They were Kyle Voissem at 87.700, Neal Thompson at 85.300, and Joseph Hodges at 84.600.
