



Northfield, Vt. - January 18, 2012 - The Springfield College wrestling team edged host Norwich University, 21-18, on Wednesday evening in a dual meet between New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) rivals.The Pride, which entered the dual meet ranked second in New England and 23rd in the country, held off a late charge to keep the Cadets upset-bid at bay.
After forfeiting the opening bout, SC quickly came back as Jesse Sgaglione and and Joe Ortiz sandwiched major decision victories around a pin from Corey Kozimor at 141 to go up 14-6. NU answered the visiting team’s comeback with a pair of decisions from freshman 157-pounder Nick Smith and freshman 165-pounder Cody Gladstone to cut the lead to 14-12.
The two sides traded decisions, including a win at 174 by Devin Biscaha. Springfield led 17-15 with two matches remaining before the Pride locked up the win with a major decision at 197 pounds by Michael Case.
Springfield will now prepare for the NEWA Duals, which will be hosted in the Springfield College Field House on Sunday.

Jason Holder will enter his third season as head wrestling coach in 2013. Holder had a standout first season at the helm of the Pride, leading Springfield to the NEWA Duals Championship and taking three wrestlers to the NCAA Championships.
