



Babson Park, Mass. - November 6, 2012 – A trio of Springfield College field hockey players were honored for their excellence this season as they were selected to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey All-Conference teams on Tuesday. Kelly Gallo was named to the first team, while Meg McHugh and MK Murray took home second-team honors.The Pride finished the season with a 10-10 record and advanced to the NEWMAC Championship game after upsetting top-seeded Babson in the tournament semifinals.
For Gallo, it is her third consecutive selection to the all-conference first team. The Westfield, Mass. native had one of the finest offensive seasons in program history, producing a team-best 39 points off 16 goals and seven assists. Throughout the year, the junior had five games with at least two goals, including three hat tricks.
Both McHugh and Murray earned all-conference accolades for the first time in their careers.
McHugh, who hails from Greenfield, Mass., had a standout offensive season for Springfield in her senior campaign, tallying 24 points, including 10 goals. She had six games with at least three points and scored eight of her 10 goals against conference foes.
Murray anchored Springfield's defense throughout the season to earn all-league honors. A native of Killingworth, Conn. Murray tallied a pair of defensive saves this season to go along with two goal and two assists on the offensive side of the ball. Her leadership on the field played a major role in Springfield reaching the conference championship game for the first time since 2009.
After eight years as head coach of the Pride, Melissa Sharpe, has continued the SC tradition of winning on the field hockey turf, posting an impressive 120-58 record, good for a winning percentage of .674 at the helm of her alma mater. Read more.
